Planting Season Has Begun! | Our Vegetable Garden, Strawberries & a Banana Tree
Planting season has finally begun, and we're so happy to be back in the garden. This year, we decided to keep things simple. The summer heatwave delayed many of our plans, so we planted just a few of our favorites and hoped for the best.
Our first stop was the garden center, where we spent some time deciding which banana plant to bring home. My husband wasn't entirely convinced. Since we don't have a greenhouse, we'll probably have to move it indoors during the winter. But I couldn't resist... it brings a little touch of the Caribbean to our garden. To make things easier when the colder months arrive, we planted it in a planter instead of directly in the ground. Now we'll just have to see how well it does.
Back home, it was time to get planting. We added strawberries, eggplants, tomatoes, basil, curly endive, escarole, an olive tree, and a few colorful flowers to brighten the garden. Even though we planted less than usual this year, everything seems to be settling in beautifully, and we're excited to watch it grow over the coming weeks.
Of course, our supervisor, GaΓ―a, our cat, was close by the entire time. She sat quietly watching every move we made, curious as always. I think she was just as excited about planting season as we were... or maybe she was simply making sure we were doing everything properly!
To help nourish our plants naturally, I also prepared one of my favorite homemade garden tonics using banana peels and crushed eggshells soaked in water. It's a simple way to recycle kitchen scraps while giving the garden a little extra boost.
Our little olive tree will need plenty of patience. It will take several years before it produces olives.
Gardening is a journey, and every season teaches us something new.
Music may always be his greatest passion, but over time my husband has become quite the gardener—and I couldn't be happier to share this journey with him.
Now comes the part every gardener looks forward to... Watching tiny plants grow into healthy vegetables and harvesting fresh strawberries straight from the garden.
Thank you for joining us today. Until next time, happy gardening... and remember to grow, learn, and flourish. πΏ
